The Washington State Office of Financial Management contracted with the University of Washington to conduct a legislative-mandated study, Senate Bill 55950-S.SL, on police pursuits in Washington state.

This study will gather data on police vehicular pursuits in Washington State. We seek to gather “lived experience” from those who experienced, had a close relative experience, or witnessed a vehicular police pursuit in the State of Washington.

Who can participate? You may be eligible if:

  • You live in Washington State
  • You have experience with, or witnessed a police vehicular pursuit in Washington State
  • You were apprehended as part of a police vehicular pursuit

Study activities include:

  • 30 to 45 minute recorded interview with a research scientist about your experiences

Participation is free! Participants selected will receive a $25 gift card as a token of appreciation for contributing to this important work!

This study also investigates pursuit data currently collected by police agencies and will make recommendations on standard data that should be collected by police agencies in the future. However, the report will not provide recommendations on pursuit policies or legislation. The final report is due to the state in June 2025.
