2025 National Injury Prevention Day (NIPD)

Shining our light to prevent serious childhood injury

Injuries are the leading cause of death and disability to U.S. children from 1 to 18 years old. Every day, 20 children die from preventable injuries, resulting in more deaths than all other diseases combined. In fact, injury is the leading cause of death for people through 44 years of age.

National Injury Prevention Day (NIPD) is Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Together with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids and local community partners, the HIPRC will “Shine a Green Light” on preventing serious childhood injury.

Bicycle & Scooter Safety

As children get older, bicycles provide the opportunity to get outside and explore, experience a bit of freedom, and spend time with friends. When they’re ready to venture out of the driveway and into the street, as their parent or caregiver, it’s important that you help them understand how to share the road safely.

E-scooters are a popular mode of transportation, especially around major urban cities. It’s important to prioritize safety while riding them. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned rider, taking precautions and following guidelines can help ensure a safe ride.

Water Safety

Drowning is the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion or immersion in liquid and is not always fatal. It most often occurs quickly and quietly during periods of inadequate supervision. Adult supervision is often a common contributing factor for childhood drowning.

Gun Safety

Safe Storage of your firearms to a place outside your household can reduce the availability and immediate access to lethal means for people in crisis. It will help prevent suicide or self-harm, is voluntary and allows you to retrieve the gun when the crisis has passed.

By being proactive about firearm safety and access, you can protect yourself and loved ones from firearm injury or suicide.
