Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on America’s roadways. Each day, we are faced with distracted driving risks, from our driveways to parking lots and back home again. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), new estimates of total motor-vehicle deaths show that our roads are the most dangerous they have been in years.

On a typical day in the U.S., eight people are killed and hundreds more are injured in distraction-affected crashes. In 2021, motor-vehicle deaths increased 9% resulting in 46,020 deaths across our nation. Committing to attentive and alert driving can help to prevent unintentional injury and death caused by distracted driving.

It Was Just… talking or texting while driving is one of the most dangerous forms of distracted driving. Other common distractions include:

  • Interacting with passengers
  • Eating or drinking
  • Applying makeup
  • Shaving
  • Reading

  • Operating GPS systems
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs

Distracted driving puts everyone at risk. At any given moment, approximately 660,000 drivers are using or manipulating electronic devices like cellphones and infotainment systems.
