HIPRC Focused on Safe Usage and Storage of Firearms – Not Gun Control

For more than thirty years, the Harborview Injury Prevention Center has conducted research on injury and injury prevention. We pride ourselves on transforming that research into practice through community outreach. Recent media has mischaracterized our work as advocating gun control. To be clear, HIPRC does not advocate for or against gun control. HIPRC and its researchers express no public opinion about and make no contribution toward the debate surrounding gun control and ownership. Furthermore, under University of Washington and State of Washington policy and law, HIPRC is prohibited from participating in the debate on gun control.

HIPRC promotes the safe use of firearms and the safe storage of firearms as a means to prevent injury For example, we are one of several sponsors who distribute free firearm lock boxes and trigger locks throughout the Puget Sound area as a way to increase the safety of our community.
