The HIPRC had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Douglas Wiebe, Director of the University of Michigan Injury Center, one of our partner Injury Control Research Centers (ICRCs), as part of our Weekly Speaker and Education Series. This was one of the first in-person guest presentations we’ve hosted in some time, making it an exciting opportunity for our team to engage directly with experts in the field.
Dr. Wiebe’s presentation, titled “Using Epidemiology to Understand Sport Concussion Incidence and Acute Outcomes, and Motivate Studies of Long-Term Health,” provided valuable insights into the ongoing work being done to better understand and prevent concussions in sports. Key topics included successful prevention initiatives, fostering collaboration between clinicians and researchers, and innovative approaches to studying the long-term health impacts of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion in collegiate athletes.
We are grateful to Dr. Wiebe and our colleagues at the University of Michigan Injury Center for sharing their expertise and continuing to strengthen collaboration across ICRCs.
