INSIGHT Seeking Project, Mentor Submissions

INSIGHT Seeking Project, Mentor Submissions

By: Alexandra de Leon Date: December 15th, 2020

The 2021 INSIGHT Summer Research Program is almost here, and Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center is looking for HIPRC-affiliated faculty and fellows to provide mentorship for our 2021 cohort of summer interns. The success of all our students that come through the program is due in large part to the mentors that help introduce them to injury research and public health.

This eight-week program runs June 21 -August 13, 2021. Students will receive a stipend, create a research poster, and present at the INSIGHT Research Symposium on Aug. 6, 2020. Student interns will also have basic access to statistical experts for advice on analytical approach and inference.

Research projects must be suitable in challenge and scope for an upper level undergraduate student to complete in eight weeks. Data should be accessible, including any necessary IRB approval, by early May 2021. Mentors should be able to guide students and provide opportunities for check-in at least weekly (about two hours per week). Projects that integrate a pediatric/youth/across the lifespan component or address questions of diversity and equity are desired but not mandatory.

For questions on project suitability, becoming a mentor, or any other comments and concerns, you can email us at injuryed@uw.edu. To sign up to be a mentor, complete our INSIGHT Mentorship Interest and Research Project Form.
