Fred Rivara, M.D., M.P.H., kneels down to interact with a child. While we’ve known his true identity for much longer, ParentMap Magazine let the world know that Fred Rivara, MD, MPH, is a superhero. Every spring, ParentMap selects a number of community leaders, superheroes, that serve as champions for families and kids across Washington. Dr. Rivara, recognized for his safety advocacy and research, served as director of HIPRC for 13 years and is Seattle Children’s Hospital Guild endowed chair in pediatric research; professor and vice chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington; and editor-in-chief of JAMA Pediatrics journal.
